Quilt Assembly

Once you have all 26 alphabet blocks done, and all the "Free" blocks, it's time to assemble the quilt top. Trim all the blocks to the sizes given. Hopefully you allowed extra as I suggested so that you have plenty to make the blocks the correct size. DON'T FORGET SEAM ALLOWANCES AS YOU CUT!

The schematic here shows how the blocks all fit. Assemble in the following order, using the schematic as a guide:

  1. Abracadabra  to Free #1.
  2. Free block #3 to Fortune Teller. These attach to the top piece of Kitty, the 10 x 2" piece. Sew the above 5 pieces together. This is Section 1.
  3. Broomstick (vertically) to the top of Graveyard, the 2 x5" piece, then to Free block #2. This, to Graveyard. This is section 2.
  4. Kitty to Free #9, this is section 3. Sew Sections 1, 2 and 3 together.
  5. Candy Cane to Hat, then to Free #4. To this add Free #8, making Section 4.
  6. Sew together Sections 1, 2, 3 and 4, then add Free #10.
  7. Sew Devil to Free #5, to Free #7, to Invisible, to Legs. This is section 5.
  8. Eyeballs goes to Free #6, to Jack O'Lantern, to Free #11, to Moon, to Free #12. This is Section 6. Sew Sections 5 and 6 together. Sew together all sections so far, to make the top half of your quilt.
  9. Moving down...sew Nightmare to Spiders, then to Owl, then to Trick or Treat. This is Section 7.
  10. Sew Web to Free #15, and then to X-Ray. This is Section 8. 
  11. Sew Potions to Raven to make Section 9.
  12. Sew Free #13 to the top of Queen, Sew Free #14 to the bottom of Ululate, sew these 4 blocks together. Add Yummy to make Section 12.
  13. The last section is Free #16 to Zombie, to Vampire, to make Section 13.
  14. Sew together Section 7 to 8,  12 to 13, then to 9. Finally sew the 2 "halves" together to make the bottom portion of the quilt top. You now have the top in 2 pieces, sew these together and the top is fully assembled.
